... Psykhomantus has been around in midlands underground scene for some time now. From 1991 he started out with the name Busta Scratch then use the name Psykhomantus from 1999 onwards. Psykhomantus name would find itself on underground flyers and posters for bigger soirees (DJ Pogo, DJ Skully, DJ Cash Money, Moorish Delta 7, Task Force, Ugly Duckling, Mark B & Blade, DJ Noise, The P Brothers, Skitz & Rodney P (Radio 1-Xtra), DJ Maseo (of De La Soul), Jehst, Skinny Man just to name a few…) or behind illustrious groups (El Mahicho, a band that add a unique live sound dedicated to latin funk, Freestyle Collative, a rotating live musicians and vocalists cast of soul, jazz, hip-hop, and reggae artist coming together in the spirit of freestyle and Soulamite, the band that represents soul and funk from the past). In addition to performing along side the people he presents (a dream come true), to host along side big stars, or being in various DMC’s battles, it didn’t stop there for Mantus as more doors were open to his talent. Mantus landed a role in a theatre play in 2003 and 2006 (Kompany Malakhi’s “A Hiphopstory-Looking For The Prefect Beat”) becoming the musical director for it too. Psykhomantus delivered a live performance DJ workshop showcasing an educational lesson for Charlie Ahearn (director of the seminal Hip-Hop movie “Wild Style”) “Yes Yes Y’all: Hip Hop from Scratch” book at The Hospital art gallery in Covent Garden, London in 2003. In 2004 he introduced turntablism to music lessons in schools to help push the art with the help of a company called Pedestrian, he was also asked to appear in a 30-minute documentary called “Word On The Street” which was aired on BBC 2 in June 2005 about the Hip-Hop slang. The world lost a great producer from Detroit named Jay Dee aka J Dilla in the early year of 2006, Psykhomantus held down a history lesson in Leicester, of the mans work which turned into a lecture for Black History Month in Luton, in that same year. Mantus now tours, performs with groups, teaches in schools, doe’s internet worldwide radio, act’s, discussion, demonstrations, master classes and now a recording artist (Aaaaahhhh, you like that). Since 2001, Psykhomantus has established himself as one of the hardest working individuals. Mantus says… ‘DJ’s nowadays come and go. C2C (French 3x DMC World Champions) said ‘New DJ’s are coming up and the old ones keep creating and involving into Djing’, I agree to what they said cause I didn’t want to put myself into a box so people can just say ‘Oh he’s one of those scratch DJ’s, he’s a Turntablist, a battle DJ, or a Hip-Hop Dee Jay just playing rap music’. ‘Even when I do DJ Battles, I DON’T USE BATTLE BREAK RECORDS’, no compulsory figures here and no limitation for Mantus. And even if Mantus don’t have to prove anything else in competitions, he continues digging the crates for old and new records for the unique sound to cut and paste for future events. Psykhomantus has over ten years of experience as a Dee Jay, and has been collecting records since childhood. Having a deep rooted and diverse background in music has given Mantus the ability to amaze his crowds by manipulating or restructuring a classic record (having two copies of the same records) to produce a new composition from its original form (combined with his body tricks) into frenzy. His set is range from Hip-Hop, Break Beats, Rare Grooves and Soul to Classic Funk, Jazz and Broken Beats
